Proper Ventilation for Your Outdoor Kitchen Island To ensure proper ventilation, it's important to have at least two vents for each grill installation, one in the low position for Liquid Propane and one in the elevated position for Natural Gas. This allows for the proper circulation of air, keeping your outdoor kitchen island cool and comfortable. Single Vent Door The Classic Series Flush Style 30" Double Access Vented Door is equipped with a single vent that can accomplish half of the ventilation requirement. However, it's important to note that it's not sufficient to provide proper ventilation for your entire outdoor kitchen island. Purchase an additional Vented Door or Install an Island Vent To ensure proper ventilation for your entire outdoor kitchen island, we recommend purchasing an additional vented door or installing an island vent. (I understand from the manual that the cut out is is 22", and that I need to leave at least 4" behind the back of the grill and the wall, but what I don't understand is how far the back of the grill extends behind the cut out. Because I don't know how far the back of the grill extends behind the cut out, I can't calculate the counter depth I need to leave 4" between the back of the grill and the wall.)

Hi - Measuring from the back of the grills FireBox it is 3-5/8" to the back edge of grill, and from the cut-out line its between 2-3 inches. The hood extends an additional 3" when Open, so is why you need a minimum 4" clearance. All this is illustrated on the grills Specification Sheet, you can download in the section box Downloads.
